Canthius: Feminism & Literary Arts
I am the co-founder and former editor of Canthius, a magazine and non-profit focused on promoting equity in literary publishing. When my partners and I began publishing Canthius in 2015, VIDA: Women in Literary Arts in the United States and Canadian Women in the Literary Arts (CWILA) had recently published the first annual counts of the gender breakdown of literary publications. While Canthius began as a response to the pressing need for publishing efforts focused on gender equity, our organization’s mandate has evolved alongside the literary communities to which we belong. We now focus less on advocating for diversity within the literary mainstream and more on building lasting forms of solidarity within and between members of historically marginalized groups. In 2021, Canthius was awarded a prize from the League of Canadian Poets recognizing our “positive and ongoing impact on poetry in Canada.”

Arts Editing & Professional Grant Writing
My interest in contemporary art practice also finds expression in several editorial and professional writing projects. I am currently the Reviews Editor for ASAP/Review where I edit conventional and experimental reviews of recent scholarly books, art exhibitions, film festivals, and other curated content. I especially love helping visual artists articulate their own artistic projects more clearly. In 2023, I developed and taught an undergraduate course at the University of Ottawa that introduced visual art students to non-academic writing about cultural objects, including grant proposals, artist statements, reviews, and critical essays. I occasionally provide editorial and grant writing services to professional visual artists—I’ve recently worked with Seonna Hong, Drew Mosley, Tomas Pajdlhauser, and Julian Garner.
